Edit Mode & Render Mode

Why there are two modes

Voice generation and the AI render both need the graphics card's memory (VRAM), and there isn't enough to run both at the same time. The studio solves this by switching between two modes — and it does the switching for you.

Edit Mode

Everything interactive is available: voice generation, the timeline, and all studio features. This is the mode you're in while writing, composing, and directing.

Render Mode

The graphics card is handed over to the AI render. Voice generation is paused while renders run. You can still browse projects and takes, and queue up more work for later.

Switching happens automatically

The studio switches to Render Mode when you start a render queue run, and back to Edit Mode when rendering is done (or when you return to the workspace). Before a render starts, the studio also checks that enough graphics memory is actually free — if not, it offers to clear it for you with one click.

You may notice a short delay while services pause and resume — this is normal.

Mode switches take a moment

Expect 10–20 seconds in either direction. The tray icon goes orange while services are starting or stopping, then returns to green when ready.

Switching manually

You can also switch from the tray icon menu:

  • Right-click the tray icon → Mode: Render to free memory for a render batch.
  • Right-click → Mode: Edit to bring voice generation back.

If you press a button that needs Edit Mode (like voice generation) while in Render Mode, the studio tells you and offers to switch back — so you can't get stuck.
